KOGI STATE HAS LOST A RARE GEM

AN ABRIDGED BIOGRAPHY OF
Prof. Bamidele Ogbe Solomon.

Prof. Bamidele Ogbe Solomon was born on the 7th of July, 1955, at Idofin Isanlu, Yagba East LGA, Kogi State.

He attended Idofin Isanlu Primary Shool and ECWA Primary School, Makutu -Isanlu for his Primary School Education where he obtained his School Leaving Certificate and ECWA Secondary School Mopa (ESMO), where he obtained his West Africa School Certificate.

He obtained distinction in eight out of nine subjects he sat for in the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).

He proceeded to the Federal Government College, Sokoto, for his HSC/GCE A’ Level, where he came out with Fifteen (15) points out of Sixteen (16) obtainable points.

Prof. Bamidele Ogbe Solomon proceeded to the United State of America (USA) at the tender age of Seventeen (17) years old to pursue his University education at Kansas State University, Mahattan, where he obtained his Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering with First Class (Honour).

He also obtained M.SC and P.hD in Chemical Engineering from the same university.

Prof. Solomon had his P.hD at the age of twenty-seven. After which he returned to Nigeria for his mandatory NYSC in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where he was retained after his NYSC service in the University as a Lecturer II.

He rose to the rank of a Professor at the age of 38 years.

Prof. Bamidele Ogbe Solomon was appointed as the Director General, National Biotechnology Development Agency (NBTDA), Abuja by President Olusegun Obasanjo in November, 2005. He was reappointed for another 4 years by Late President Umaru Musa Yaradua in November 2009.

He was the Director General, National Biotechnology Development Agency, Abuja, until November 2013, when he returned to his Lecturing job at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

During his days as the Director General, National Biotechnology Development Agency, he established the North Central Zonal Office of the Agency at Isanlu, Kogi State.

He was instrumental to the employment of hundreds of indigenes of Okunland and many from other parts of Kogi State into the Federal Public Service.

Prof. Bamidele Ogbe Solomon died on the 10th of May, 2023 at the age of 68 years old.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs Florence Anike Solomon, his children and grand children.
